What exactly is a smart TV and what can you do with it? Television technology has not been left behind in the fast emerging technology innovations of the 21st century. From those days of black and white huge television sets to flat screen TVs. Then we started seeing an emergency of smart TVs.

According to TechTarget, they define a smart TV as a digital television that is, essentially, an Internet-connected, storage-aware computer specialized for entertainment. Smart TVs are available as stand-alone products but regular televisions can also be made “smart” through set-top boxes that enable advanced functions. Game consoles can also be connected to regular televisions to enable a smart experience.

A smart TV is also referred to as a connected TV or hybrid TV, because it’s a television with integrated Internet and interactive “Web 2.0” features. On such TVs you get more experience beyond just watching TV channels on a guided schedule. With internet capabilities, the smart TV allows you to watch your favourites on YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, and even watch live broadcast from international broadcasts such as CNN, BBC, NBC and so on. You can also install apps for increased features that your smart TV can support. Some smart TVs support web cams, allowing you to make Skype video calls from your television. Isn’t that such a smart thing?
Television sets will not be the same anymore. Now all countries in the world have gone digital in television broadcasts. Regular TVs cannot work anymore without a set-top box. This means manufacturing of smart TVs is on the increase and it’s the future of television. What this means is that, we’re now living in a world where the demand for inter-connectivity is on the increase.

The demand for internet is growing and we’ll have more houses connected to the internet as a result. My prediction for the future is a world that’s more interconnected online. A computer, a smart phone, a smart TV and a smart home. A smart home where you can monitor every activity from wherever you are and initiate or schedule tasks that needs to be done in your house while you’re miles away. The future ahead is unbelievable but we will need to embrace these technologies as they come with a lot of consciousness. Most of these technologies will come with huge challenges and exposure to the world that is unbelievable. We might not even know how compromised we are until it’s too late. Every technology comes with its own demands. If the world sets deadlines to get rid of the old technologies and embrace the new ones, it means no part of the world will be left behind. Technology will be embraced all over the world. At least to me, that’s how it looks like.
